I have a super exciting announcement to make… coming up in just a little bit! It’s a good one (hint: this one is all about fashion goodness)!!!
But first, I wanted to tell you a little bit about how I found my own wedding dress… The first thing I did after getting engaged was to make an appointment to go try on dresses. I was so excited, and I knew that a dress appointment would be the perfect thing to kick off planning. Going into the appointment, I sort of knew what I wanted – I had seen a dress that I adored on one of my brides, and just knew it would be perfect. BUT, I also know that most brides go to try on dresses and leave with something completely different than what they had imagined, so I kept an open mind. I brought several photos with me that I had torn from magazines of dresses that I liked, and I specifically wore an outfit that I thought spoke to my style in general so that the saleswoman could size me up.

Well… I tried on many many dresses that day – the dress I knew that I loved; big, satiny, blingy ballgowns; chic sheathes; mermaid dresses, the works. I can’t give any hints about what I ended up loving, but I can tell you that I didn’t end up buying anything that day! I found the dress that I knew I wanted, but that early in the planning process I wasn’t ready to make such a huge financial commitment! So I left the salon dress-less and spent the rest of the afternoon, trying to think of ways I could get that dress…
When I got home, I did a google search of my dress (see, in my mind, it already was my dress!), and came upon several online sources for pre-worn dresses. Now, this is not something I had ever considered before, but within five minutes, I had found a former bride, who was selling her dress (my dream dress!), in near perfect condition for less than half the price! And here’s the real kicker – she lived in Boston.
So I immediately made plans with her to come take a look at the dress. I know this doesn’t sound like it could possibly be true, but I swear – I tried on that dress and it fit perfectly. The length, the size, everything. Also, the bride I was buying the dress from was just adorable – she had just had the cutest little baby boy, her husband was adorable (he cried when he saw me in the dress!), so it felt like my dress was coming with a big dose of good karma. Needless to say, we bought it on the spot. That happened over a year ago, and I still totally adore my dress. Most importantly, it still fits!
So that’s my story… you’ll have to wait to see which dress I picked! Would you ever think of buying a pre-worn wedding dress? Here are a few great sources that might convince you!
